This bike tour in the Terre di Pisa will take you for over 30km on almost completely flat ground, between the Arno and the Pisan Mountains, partly following the Strada dell’Olio, the theme of the tour, but also taking you on a historical discovery where the Romanico Pisano style will take centre stage… along the way you will encounter no fewer than 5 churches built around the year 1000 AD.

Even using traditional bikes, the tour is suitable for anyone with minimal experience using a bike, considering the lack of hills on the route. However, e-bikes are always available for hire.

CYCLING EXPERIENCE

Magnificent cycling experience to discover Tuscany with a sport guided tour        

Departures: Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm – IN ITALIAN and ENGLISH!
Sunday at 9:15 am – IN ITALIAN and GERMAN!  
Duration: 3 hours
Price per person: 115 € (including bicycle rental)
Participants: minimun 4 – maxium 10 people

The start and end point of this cycling experience will be one of our partner farms in the area, giving you the opportunity, at your discretion, to visit them and taste the excellent local products. Here, you will be given your chosen bike in the right size for your measurements (height and weight, male/female), which you provide when booking. You will also be given a helmet and a water bottle, and then our representatives will take care to seat you correctly on the bike and provide you with the practical instructions needed for the tour.

At this point you will be ready to cycle for around three hours in the Pisan plains of the Arno, at the foot of the Pisan Mountains, leaving from the medieval village of Vicopisano in the direction of Calci, through the village of Uliveto, famous for its thermal springs, and then passing below the Upezzinghi Fortress, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy. Shortly afterwards, you will find yourselves in front of the Certosa di Calci, an ex-monastery that is now a Natural History Museum. A stop in the village for a coffee is a must, to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our little villages where the rhythm of life has changed very little over the years. After catching your breath, it’s back on the bike, crossing the Arno and passing through the town of Cascina, which you will cross following its Romanesque traces that are scattered around the area.

Shortly after, you will be back in Vicopisano, where you will return your bikes and accessories to our representative, who will be available for technical assistance for the entire duration of the tour. 

This bike tour will have you to pedal on the Monti Pisani Oil Road, one of the most popular areas for olive growing in the Terre di Pisa.

The flat route between the towns of Vicopisano, Calci with the Certosa, and Cascina, following the traces of the Pisan Romanesque churches scattered throughout the Pisan plain, will have you discover the flavours of extra virgin olive oil and the difference between the various growers.
