-‘Voci di una comunità’ show

SATURDAY 21.00 | free of charge

VOICES OF A COMMUNITY is a collective performance with the participation of citizens, associations, choirs, theatrical groups. It is born from an initiative of community theater directed and coordinated by Accademia dell’Incompiuto. VOICES OF A COMMUNITY presents to the participants of the Vespa World Day the theatrical, musical, and cultural richness of Pontedera. The perfomance speaks of identity and memory, both individual and collective: Who am I? Who are we? What is Pontedera? What is its history and what is its future? Literary and poetic texts are used alongside original writings by participants, autobiographical material, and memories. In the performance, choral and polyphonic singing is of great relevance, a living metaphor of the community of diverse voices that inhabit a city. VOICES OF A COMMUNITY is a theatrical performance created by the citizens, born from a platform of aggregation and collaboration between citizens and local associations, for the construction of a community in which territorial services are integrated with civil society. Through the active involvement of a varied range of associations and participants, a network has been created in which the performative event is the result of a collaborative process. The citizen workshop, active since October, has attracted the participation of many citizens, and numerous are the associations and formal and informal groups, cultural realities, and third-sector organizations that are participating, in various ways, in the construction of the final event. The theatrical-musical event will see the participation of the Musical Academy of Pontedera, of professional and amateur artists, choirs and theatrical groups from the area, elementary school students, and other realities of the Valdera, including the “Non Più Sola” Association. The Accademia dell’Incompiuto is a cultural association founded in January 2022, whose artistic and cultural activities are at the service of civil society. It proposes diversified artistic and cultural projects: theatrical performances, interdisciplinary cultural projects, community theater paths. Through its activities, Accademia dell’Incompiuto carries out an exploration of creative and pedagogical models based on collaboration, mutual learning, and the valorization of diversity in its social, political, and aesthetic dimension.

-‘Escodamè in vespa‘ show

FRIDAY 17.30-19.00

Escodamè in Vespa – a musical journey through the history of Italy on board a Vespa’ performed by and with Iacopo Crudeli

“Escodamè in Vespa”: the recital of which singer and actor Iacopo Crudeli is author and performer. The show will see the artist tell the audience the story of the Piaggio Vespa from its beginnings to the present day, flanking the narration of the thousands of transformations of this extraordinary symbol of Italian spirit in the world with some of the most timeless successes of our songwriting. Music is undoubtedly the leitmotif of the entire operation, and in fact Crudeli will be accompanied on stage by musicians of considerable poetic and value: Damiano Calloni on piano and Luca Bellotti on saxophones. Completing the story, created by producer Massimo Carmassi, is a colourful visual projection that draws from the immense archive of images and films kindly made available by the Piaggio Foundation and the Museum, and which reinforce to the public’s eye the greatness of the Vespa as a defined entity of the collective imagination and aesthetics that has characterised the design of every decade.

‘Vespa my love’ documentary

FRIDAY 19.00-19.30

the photographer Alberto Bortoluzzi will screen his documentary ‘Vespa my love‘ in collaboration with the Piaggio Foundation at Teatro Era

‘Riding a Vespa is something different than riding a motorbike, even different than riding a traditional scooter, riding a Vespa is riding a Vespa.

That aesthetics all its own, that riding that always requires special attention, like for a capricious girlfriend, that sometimes forces you to tightrope walker manoeuvres to avoid being thrown off, make it even more desirable and loved.
How then could one not think of dedicating an out-of-the-ordinary tribute to her?
As the professional photographer that I am, I thought I’d put my knowledge of photography to use to create the most authentic images possible of 1:18 scale Vespa models, starting with the first ones made in 1946, right up to the present day. I set them in all the regions of Italy, looking for a background for each region that was recognisable, or that recalled it for some reason.
At the helm of these marvellous jewels, which have accompanied entire generations of Italians, was the undersigned in a miniature version, who, with a camera around his neck, would document their journey to leave a trace for posterity even when it is over.
The project is now at an advanced stage, twelve regions have already been photographed, eight are missing, which I hope to complete before the end of the summer. Among the various goals, the realisation of a beautiful exhibition, a catalogue book that recounts the project with texts and photos, and a small desk calendar that can keep company with the many enthusiasts who, like me, love it madly.’ Alberto Bortoluzzi

-”Le infinite strade della Vespa’: dialogue in words and music

FRIDAY 20.00-21.00

from a small book a eulogy to the Vespa in the form of a dialogue in words and music by Lorenzo Franchini and Iacopo Crudeli

Piccole ruote per andare lontano (Small wheels to go far) is the title of the small book from whose pages this recital takes its cue. It takes the form of a dialogue between Lorenzo Franchini, the author of the book, and the performer Iacopo Crudeli. Moments of readings and songs alternate with photo and video contributions. The tale of a Vespa rider’s life thus becomes a eulogy to the Vespa to try to understand the secret of the magic that makes it a unique and special vehicle for exploring the world with gusto and slowness, but not only, because a Vespa is capable of being so much more. On stage with Franchini and Crudeli will be Roberta Brighi (bass) and Gabriele Andreotti (guitars).

Lorenzo Franchini was born in Varese in 1963. He got on a Vespa for the first time in 1981 and has practically never got off it since. A passion that over the years has ended up combining with those for writing, travelling and reading. From 2009 to 2018 he was a contributor to the magazine Mototurismo for road tests of Vespas and scooters, with reportages and travel stories. His most significant Vespa experience was the north-south crossing of Argentina, from Buenos Aires through the Pampas and Patagonia to the southernmost tip of Tierra del Fuego, which he recounted in the book ‘Dove il Mondo Finisce’ (2019 – Alpine Studio Editore) with which he won the Special Critics’ Award at the Storie in Viaggio literary competition. In May 2023, his new book “Le Infinite Strade della Vespa – piccole ruote per andare lontano” (The Endless Roads of the Vespa – small wheels to go far) was published in the Piccola Filosofia di Viaggio series by Ediciclo Editore.

His personal website is: www.franchinilorenzo.it

The book will be available for purchase on the evening of the event at the Era Theatre, and you will also find it in the Carrara bookshop.

-Mitici Vespisti

FRIDAY 15:30

“Mitici Vespisti”, the talk show hosted by Eugenio Leone in collaboration with Il Tirreno, which will bring together all the men and women of Piaggio on Friday 19 April at 3.30 p.m., during Vespa World Days, at the Era Theatre.

-“La Vespa non si scorda mai – The unforgettable Vespa

FRIDAY 15.30

The book presentation will take place during the talk show ‘Mitici Vespisti’

another extraordinary multi-sensory book by Erga edizioni published in Italian and English on the occasion of the Vespa World Days 2024. It is written in four hands by Eugenio Leone, coordinator of the event’s organisation, and by Paola Scarsi, author of the great publishing success “La prima Vespa non si scorda mai” (The first Vespa you never forget) and recounts, through unpublished and unexpected testimonies, what the feeling abroad is towards the Vespa. Eugenio introduces some Italians who over the years have made the Vespa famous throughout the world, making its sturdiness and reliability known or founding important Vespa clubs, while Paola outlines the lives, experiences and adventures of many foreigners (Vespa Club presidents, travellers, restorers). On Friday 19 April at 3.30 p.m. at the Era Theatre, the authors will be present together with some of the book’s protagonists, including Jean-Charles Caradonna (president of the “Cercle Vespiste de France” and journalist of “La Vie de La Moto”), Paolo Daniele (president of the Belgian Vespa Club ATH), Gianfranco Gemmi (for decades a Vespa tester) and Masoud Parvarech (president of Vespa Club Iran). This book by Erga edizioni is also multi-sensory: you download the Vesepia App for free, scan the VCodes in the book and see videos and photo galleries of the protagonists.

To this precious content for anyone who loves the Vespa, Erga edizioni has added a kind of magic: this extraordinary book, for the first time in the world, tells of things that are yet to come. In fact, by framing a few VCodes you will be able to see the images and videos (of events that have yet to happen) that Vespa World Days participants will send us, transforming the book into a unique and unrepeatable documentation. Just as unique is the feeling that pervades all the book’s protagonists: ‘We are one big family. The one that Vespa has created in its more than 70 years of life all over the world and that unites hundreds of thousands of Vespisti, at every latitude or longitude. Eugenio Leone and Paola Scarsi tell Vespa stories that pass from generation to generation, cross continents and create indissoluble bonds.
